Change isn't a straight line

I’ll start tomorrow…

I’ll start on Monday…

I’ll start on the first of the month…

I’ll start on the new moon....

 

I’ve been caught in a loop of “tomorrow…” and have been struggling to get my next personal 56-day challenge started. 

 

But here is the thing, rather than being hard on myself about being unmotivated or “behind”, I acknowledged that I’m exactly where I’m meant to be - and so are you!



 I had an amazing conversation with, Abby, a Fung Shui expert yesterday and scratched the surface on some concepts of this philosophy (I’m really excited to learn more and have her join us in Light 56 Circle). The biggest thing that stood out to me was the 5-step cycle from water💧 to wood 🪵 to fire 🔥 to metal🪙 and back to water 💧

 

This conversation reminded me of the Transtheoretical, 6-stages of change model - no matter where you are, you’ll fall somewhere in this model (see you really are exactly where you are meant to be).

 

Here are six stages in the process of making a change:

 

1️⃣Precontemplation: Not even thinking about it or in denial that you need a change.  

 

2️⃣Contemplation: Thinking about making a change. 

 

3️⃣Preparation: Considering where to start, being afraid to start, researching how to make a change, or writing down goals. 

 

4️⃣Action: Beginning and tracking the changes you’re making. 

 

5️⃣Maintenance: Feeling confident and consistent in your change. 

 

6️⃣Relapse: Rather than thinking of this as failure, think of it as moving to one of the earlier stages and aim to move through the stages again.

 

 

So, here’s a quick exercise you can do today to help you feel more at peace with where you are and decide what you want to take action on today!

 

Try and do the following with the mindset of noting vs judging.

 

Step 1 - Make a list of everything you have going on as well as those things you keep leaving for “tomorrow”

 

Step 2 - put a number beside each item based on where it is in the stages of change

 

Step 3 - review

 

1️⃣- these are probably 2s since you wrote it down

 

2️⃣- what can you research or think about to move this to 3?

 

3️⃣- frame your goal as how you want to feel because of this action

 

4️⃣- great option to consider doing as a Light 56 challenge

 

5️⃣- keep it up! ️

 

6️⃣- what were you doing previously? Do you want to re-prioritize this? It could be another candidate for a Light 56 challenge (sometimes these make great Anchors)
